Message from the Master

Friends and Brothers,

Thank you to all the 30 brothers who attended our July Stated Communication. It was a wonderful evening all around. We enjoyed a cookout and a presentation by R.W. David Potts. It was also a great honor to welcome the Deputy Grand Master, R.W. James Golladay; the Grand Senior Warden, R.W. Don Strehle; and the Assistant Grand Lecturer, R.W. Mike King, who presented W. Jeff Hayes with his Silver Card. We read a petition to receive the degrees in Freemasonry and two applications for affiliation, with more to come next month. A special thank you to those who put together an excellent meal: Jose Revollo, Juver Quintanilla, Josh Farrar, Troy Van Winkle, and Maryann Van Winkle.

Please consider donating $5 to MAHOVA. If 14 more members donate, we will be eligible for the Morlock Award again this year. See the next section for details.

Six of our brothers visited King Tyre Lodge No. 292 on the other side of Falls Church. (See picture attached.) They shared an excellent meal with us, which they have agreed to reprise for our August Table Lodge. All donations made at the August Stated will be passed along to King Tyre and the OES chapter to benefit their post-lockdown reopening. We are all excited about building a new relationship with our Prince Hall brothers and sisters.

Our August Stated on the 10th will be a joint Table Lodge with Henry Knox Field-John Blair. Dinner will be proper Southern soul food. Dress is suits. Please plan to arrive by 6:45 pm, as we will start at 7:00.

For the past few months, I’ve been exploring the possibility of holding a cave lodge. W. Jake Trenary of Winchester-Hiram Lodge provided some good counsel and put me in touch with Endless Caverns in Shenandoah. W. Troy Van Winkle and I drove out there yesterday for a site visit. It was truly spectacular (see attached pictures). On Sunday, October 17 we will host a family picnic (and games!) at the Caverns, complete with cave tours. In the evening, any brother willing to go underground can join us for a called communication and brief program.

Finally, we welcomed our Senior Warden, W. Jim Loudermilk, back to lodge. We’re all thrilled to have him among us again.

Best wishes to you all,

Christopher Kelly

We are trying to earn the Morlock Award again this year. This requires 20% of our members to contribute $5.00 or more to the Masonic Home of Virginia. This is an easy task to accomplish and helps benefit the MAHOVA. Our dues are $95 per year so if you are inclined to participate add the $5 to your dues for a total of $100.00.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. My telephone number is 703-237-0036 or by email at pnresq@aol.com.

Fraternally,

Philip Niemann Rhodes, PDDGM
